You keep saying you want to be on podcasts. Maybe you even have a list of shows saved somewhere. Then another month goes by with nothing booked.

Carl Richards, founder of Podcast Solutions Made Simple, has a fix. He shared it with East Trade Winds: stop treating podcast guesting as a someday wish, and put it on a calendar.

Carl Richards shows East Trade Winds members how to fill a calendar with podcast guest booking for a full year. He says about a hundred million people want to be podcast guests, but few have a plan. Carl walks through how to set a goal, pick the right shows, track your pitches, and use PodMatch to find hosts. He also covers personal pitches, follow-up after the interview, and why a media page on your website matters. Podcast networking does not end when the recording does.

Most people who want to be podcast guests never book a show because they have no plan. Carl Richards, founder of Podcast Solutions Made Simple and a speech coach, teaches a simple booking method. Readers learn to set a goal, track every pitch, and fill a calendar with guest spots.

---

### **Who this is for**

Solopreneurs, SMB owners, speakers, and leaders who want more visibility without paying for ads.

---

### **Key Lessons**

**1\. A goal beats a wish.** Carl says you cannot just say "someday I'll do that." You have to intend it, then pick a number you can measure. Carl set a goal of one podcast a month. He landed two, plus two speaking gigs a month. The same rules apply if you want speaking gigs instead of podcasts.

**2\. Get specific about where, who, and when.** Decide which shows fit your business, what topics you can speak on, and what hours you will say yes to. Podcasts are global, so the host may be anywhere. Carl gets invites from hosts in Africa and Australia whose booking links offer slots at one, two, and three in the morning. He likes to sleep, so he says no.

**3\. Pitch like a person, then track it.** Hosts care about their shows, and a blanket pitch gets ignored. Personalize every note. Carl's team reaches out to 30, 40, or even 50 shows at a time, so they keep a tracking sheet. It shows who replied and who needs a follow-up. Carl says some of his best relationships began after a guest appeared on his own show. Some turned into referral partners.

---

### **Practical Steps**

- **Write your number this week.** How many podcast guest spots a month can you handle? Write it down, plus the topics you can speak on.
- **Start a tracking sheet.** Add columns for host, date pitched, response, and next follow-up.
- **Build a media page on your website.** List every show you have been on. Then search [PodMatch](https://www.joinpodmatch.com/podcastsolutions?ref=blog.knack4business.com), listen to two shows, and read each host's ideal guest criteria before you pitch.

### **FAQ**

**How many podcast guest spots should I aim for?**
That is your call. Carl aimed for one a month and landed two. Pick a number you can handle, then track it.

**Where do I find podcasts that want guests?**
Use AI search, PodMatch, and your networking groups. Say out loud that you want to be a guest. Someone in the room may host a show.

**Should I send the same pitch to every host?**
No. Hosts care about their shows and ignore blanket notes. Personalize each pitch and follow up after the interview.
