You open an AI chat, and the first few minutes go to explaining your business. Again. Most owners have done this more times than they can count. Jovan Strika has built his work around fixing it, and he joined me to explain why a smarter chatbot is not the answer.
Jovan Strika is the founder and Chief Vision Officer of ElastaLink, a technology company he has run for more than 25 years. In this conversation, he shows how AI automation works when AI agents act like a new team member. They get your business data, your rules, and clear limits. He explains AI workflow automation in plain terms and why it beats a plain chatbot. He also covers AI security, including why your data should stay in a private cloud, and why a human stays in charge of every approval. Jovan shares how scattered tools hold back process improvement, and how the @Hive pilot lets owners test AI tools for small business. This episode is for small business owners and solopreneurs who want to save time without giving up privacy or control.

Many business owners treat AI like a chatbot and keep re-explaining their business. Jovan Strika, founder and Chief Vision Officer of ElastaLink, explains how AI agents use your data, rules, and limits to do real work. Readers learn how to start with private data, clear permissions, and a human approving each step.
WHO THIS IS FOR
SMB owners, solopreneurs, corporate escapees, and leaders building systems.
Key Lessons
1. AI gets useful when it knows your business.
Most business software keeps its data in separate islands. A chat tool only knows what you paste in. Jovan says an agent needs your documents, messages, and records, plus the steps your team follows. Treat it like a new hire: give it access, teach it the process, and let it learn. For example, an agent can read the "FYI" emails you are copied on and hand you one short morning summary.
2. Where your AI runs matters.
Questions typed into public AI tools run in a public cloud, often owned by companies in other countries. Sensitive data can end up in training sets. Jovan's team runs AI and data on private, isolated infrastructure, with backups and monitoring handled for you. Some businesses ban AI completely because they see no safe option, and Jovan says that costs them too.
3. Humans set the limits and approve.
An agent inherits your permissions, so it only sees what you can see. If you are not in finance, it cannot open the invoices. You also choose how much freedom it gets. It can draft and ask, or act alone on safe tasks. Every change leaves an audit trail, and for purchases it can fill the basket while you press pay.
Practical Steps
- List three tasks you repeat every week and write down how you do each one. That is the start of a skill an agent can learn.
- Decide what AI is allowed to see. Pick one set of files or records, and name who can access it today.
- Start small with approval on. Pick one task, let the agent draft, and you approve. To test it, join Jovan's AI pilot.

FAQ
What is the difference between a chatbot and an AI agent?
A chatbot answers questions. An agent also has your data, skills for your processes, and tools to search, create, and update, with a human watching.
Is it safe to put business data into AI?
It depends on where it runs. Public tools send your questions to a public cloud. A private cloud keeps your data isolated and managed.
Will an AI agent send emails or buy things without me?
Only if you allow it. You set what it can do and what it can see, and it can queue actions for your approval.
